Guake Logo

Similar to Yakuake for KDE, Guake is a drop down, hot-key (F12) enabled terminal. Similar to what was implemented in the game Quake, Guake enables you to interact in the Linux terminal without the need of switching windows. Definitely a time saver if you regularly use CLI.

Guake is still in the alpha stage, so don’t be surprised if you have issues. I will be keeping an eye on this project.

Gnome Steals Focus

Unfortunately, among my vast searching for this annoying issue in Gnome, where applications steal focus (especially Synaptic), I find that there are no answers. This does not happen on Macs (from what I hear); Windows has settings to disable windows from stealing focus; KDE has settings to prevent this. But still, no settings in Gnome to prevent applications from stealing focus.

This is a big disappointment with Gnome and the developers need to get this fixed. After all, Gnome is THE window manager; you would think it would be able to effectively manage the windows…

If you agree, or have a solution, please reply in the comments. I am also trying to get a feel for who is reading this blog and I would love to meet you!
